Congratulations, Sean F.X. Dugan
It is with great regret but warm wishes that Martin Clearwater & Bell LLP announces the retirement of Senior Partner Sean F.X. Dugan, effective January 1, 2022. In his 42 years of practice at the Firm, Mr. Dugan established himself as a fearless and talented trial attorney, a valued mentor to younger attorneys, and a trusted counselor to MCB's many clients. In addition to major hospitals, medical practices and individual physicians, he has successfully represented clients in products liability claims, as well as in complex exposure cases involving mold, asbestos, lead, silicone, Hepatitis C, and various medications. Mr. Dugan has litigated cases against the best of the plaintiff’s bar and obtained outstanding results for clients. He has always believed in focusing on the psychological dynamics of the jury decision-making process. Indeed, many of Mr. Dugan’s most successful outcomes in the setting of catastrophic injuries have been the result of his ability to present a defense that carefully navigated the emotional aspects of the claim while keeping his jury focused on the larger picture.
Mr. Dugan’s recognitions and honors are numerous, including his services as a member and past President of the New York City Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates, his membership in the Association for Healthcare Risk Management of New York, and his certification as a Civil Trial Advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. He is also a Charter Fellow by the Litigation Counsel of America and is rated AV Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell, which is their highest rating. He has been selected to The Best Lawyers in America since 2019 for Medical Malpractice Law – Defendants, and received a Lifetime Achievement award from America’s Top 100 Attorneys. Over the years and up to the present time, Mr. Dugan has been a sought after speaker and presenter to medical institutions, as well as attorney forums and seminars, and has published extensively in several peer reviewed medical and scientific journals, including New York State Journal of Medicine and For the Defense.
We congratulate our Partner and friend, Sean, on his tremendous career and send our warmest wishes as he and Lianne begin the next chapter!
