Crean on his recognition by Best Lawyers® as 2020 “Lawyer of the Year” in the category of Legal Malpractice Law – Defendants – New York City to be published in the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal on December 6, 2019.

Peter T. Crean is a senior trial partner with over 37 years of experience representing clients in medical and professional malpractice matters in large damage litigations and complex trials.

Mr. Crean leads the Firm’s Professional Liability practice group which represents professionals including lawyers and law firms in professional liability claims and legal malpractice matters.  This practice group teams defends lawyers in areas involving litigation, real estate, corporate governance, criminal law, domestic relations and trusts and estates.  MCB attorneys have represented professionals in both State and Federal courts in diverse matters including design and construction controversies, RICO and fraud investigations, mortgage and financing issues, real estate syndication matters and other areas of business and the law, and, of course, underlying medical personal injury claims. The Firm represents insurance carriers in matters regarding their professional liability insurance coverage in both Federal and State courts, and also handles all of the related appellate practice.

Drawing on his expertise, Mr. Crean crafts presentations for our clients on risk management and quality assurance, as well as on malpractice prevention, trial strategy and punitive damages in Grand Rounds and other forums. He has been an invited presenter for the New York State Bar Association on Physician Discipline and licensing issues, the Practicing Law Institute on trial strategy, and for Lawline.com on Psychiatric Malpractice. Additionally, he has co-authored chapters in the Legal Manual for New York Physicians and contributed to both Medical Economics and Court T.V.

Mr. Crean is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and has served on its Downstate Committee. He has been recognized by his peers for selection to Best Lawyers in America® as published by New York Magazine and has also been recognized by New York Super Lawyers since inception. He is AV® rated by Martindale-Hubbell® which is their highest rating.* Mr. Crean has been selected for inclusion in The Irish Legal 100, an annual list compiled by The Irish Voice Newspaper, which honors the top legal professionals of Irish descent internationally. Mr. Crean was selected for inclusion in America’s Top 100 Attorneys.

Mr. Crean is actively involved in leadership roles within the Firm and externally. For over eighteen years, he has served as a member of the Firm’s Executive Committee. He has served on the Board of Trustees for a Hospital Center and also as chair of the hospital’s Quality Assurance Committee. He has previously served as Co-Chair of the Professional Discipline Committee of the Health Law Section of the New York State Bar Association. Mr. Crean was recently selected to sit on the Board for LiveOnNewYork, New York’s organ donor procurement organization and one of the largest OPOs in the country.

Mr. Crean earned his law degree from Fordham University School of Law in 1981, and his undergraduate degree from the University of Massachusetts.
